Lower Layer Communication

The main objectives of WP2 are the following:

• Specification and development of the R-FIELDBUS physical (PL) and data link (DLL) layers, satisfying the main requirements of the industrial environment as defined in WP1.
• Verification of the Lower Layer (PL and DLL) communications.
• Assessment of the attainable performance of the proposed lower layer communication structure.

Specifically, this workpackage deals with the specification, design and development of the PL hardware and software to implement the wireless physical link between network nodes. Therefore, a number of physical layer modules will be specified, designed and developed, covering the RF front-end, modems, source and channel coding units, system controller, the signal processing unit, the antenna system etc. Finally, the developed sub-systems will be fully tested and verified before their interconnection with the data link layer.
