This workpackage provides basic services like mobility support, multimedia capabilities and messaging services to the end-user applications and the field trials. It is also responsible for building interfaces to existing wired standard fieldbuses. The workpackage is divided into two tasks focused on the specification, development and verification of the higher network layers and the application support services.
The higher layers, consisting of the network layer and the transport layer, define adequate interconnection mechanisms to support interworking with existing standard fieldbuses.
The application support services provide basic services like mobility management support, industrial multimedia capabilities and messaging services to support the end-user applications.
