Going Out

Porto has a wealth of interesting places to visit and enjoy. For those staying in Porto during the weekend, we can recommend some interesting places to visit (italic font signals places marked in the maps).

The must see of Porto is the World Heritage part of the city, which goes approximately from Ribeira (in the river margin) to the City Hall. Near the city hall do not forget to take a look at the Clérigos Tower, a city symbol.

Porto also features wonderfull and relaxing landscapes in both the riverside (to Douro) and the seaside (to the Atlantic). Therefore, enjoy walking along the riverside and seaside from Ribeira passing through Foz (mouth of the Douro River) till the City Park (Parque da Cidade).

Another worth seeing place is the Serralves Foundation (www.serralves.pt) museum (modern art) and its surrounding park, which comprises 18 hectares of formal gardens, pastures, rose gardens, woods and a romantic lake.

Concerning dinning and nightlife, probably the most interesting place to go is Ribeira, the old part of Porto, overlooking the Douro river. There it is possible to find several different options of restaurants and pubs. There are also several discos in the so-called Zona Industrial.

A must see, is the new Cais de Gaia, which is located in the south margin of the Douro river, where it is possible to dine while enjoying the beautiful scenery of the World Heritage Porto.

It is also possible to experience Porto's cuisine at the "Eating in Porto" Gastronomic Fair, an event aimed at displaying the gastronomy and wines of Porto and northern Portugal. The Gastronomic Fair takes place in the vicinity of Alfândega, from June 6 to July 6, noon to midnight.
